Description
Description
The Shimano HG400 9-speed cassette is a rock-solid steel cassette for your mountain or road bike, suitable for all 9-speed Shimano drivetrains.
The Shimano Alivio / Sora cassette is made of a durable and wear-resistant steel construction. The cassette has a long lifespan, thanks to the sturdy spider and the robust material of which the gears are made. This ensures that the cassette can last for thousands of kilometers in the toughest conditions!
Wide, versatile gearing
The Shimano HG400 9-speed cassette is suitable for a multitude of applications thanks to the wide and versatile gearing. You can choose whether you place this cassette on our racing bike or your mountain bike (see the diagram below for the options). The cassette itself has a very wide range, which means that you have a fitting gear in almost all situations! From long straights where you want to reach high speed to a steep climb where you need a climbing gear: this cassette ensures that you are prepared for everything.

SRAM XD(R) body
This cassette is only compatible with an XD(R) body. With this type of body the cassette is a single piece. You slide the cassette over the body and then you can tighten the lockring. When installing an MTB XD cassette on an XDR body, a 1.85 mm spacer should be placed in between.
Don't forget the assembly grease!
The lockring on your cassette should be tightened up, in most cases up to 40Nm. To be able to loosen the cassette, we recommend you to apply a little bit of assembly paste to the lockring. Our assembly greases can be found here.

User tips
How often should I clean my bike? Regular cleaning ensures that your material lasts longer and that you can enjoy your cycling for longer. How often you need to clean depends on the weather conditions in which you ride. Do you cycle through all kinds of weather, or do you only go out when the sun is shining? It all affects the degree of wear and tear and some people will have to clean their bikes more often than others. Use the schedule below as a guide:October to March:
• Clean every 200 km
• Rinse after every ride
• Dry and oil the chain after every ride
• Leave the bike to dry at room temperature
April to September:
• Clean every 300 km
• Rinse off after cycling in the rain
• Dry and oil the chain after polishing or rinsing
• Leave the bike to dry at room temperature

Very solid cassette at a good price
- André 14 January 2024
Very decent cassette at a good price. I used the previous one (same cassette) for about 10,000 kilometres without any problems. As the front sprocket was worn out, I replaced the rest of the running gear as well. I think the previous one could still last a while.

easy to assemble
